Need work experience?
There's plenty of information on work experience if you know where to look.
Student Placements
Most work experience will fall into the category of 'vocational placement', aka 'student placement'. This is a short arrangement where a student takes part in some work for a business for the purpose of completing a unit of study. Vocational placements are usually limited to a set number of hours or weeks, or a set amount of work. Read the fair work article or check out the fact sheet below for a better understanding.

Should you be paid?
A vocational placement is strictly unpaid, but if you're interested in other forms of work experience, the unpaid work fact sheet below may interest you. Whether work should be paid or unpaid is determined by whether there's an 'employment relationship' between the worker and the business. There are a bunch of factors that contribute to this, including the duration of the working arrangement, the significance or value of the work you're doing for the business, and whether or not the work contributes to your learning.
